{"id":1425,"date":"2009-08-06T09:29:24","date_gmt":"2009-08-06T09:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1425"},"modified":"2010-03-30T13:09:38","modified_gmt":"2010-03-30T13:09:38","slug":"hazel-rogers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/performers-directors\/black-actors-in-italy\/hazel-rogers\/","title":{"rendered":"Hazel Rogers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a name that was unfamiliar to me until watching the 1959 Alberto Sordi vehicle, <strong>Il moralista<\/strong>, directed by Giorgio Bianchi.\u00a0 Hazel Rogers has a small part as one of a trio of dancers Sordi &#8211; playing a public censor who has become fascinated with the seemier side of life on a trip to Munich &#8211; attempts to bring home and set up as showgirls in the very same Roman theatres he&#8217;d previously been so judgemental about.\u00a0 She doesn&#8217;t really do much, beyond having a good frug and saying a couple of lines, but in the interest of comprehensiveness she deserves a listing here.\u00a0 Interestingly, one of her co-dancers is also black (although she isn&#8217;t credited&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>She also appeared in a number of other films in the US and Italy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>South Pacific<\/strong> (1958) (uncredited) &#8230;. Negro Woman<\/li>\n<li><strong>Europa di notte<\/strong> (1959 Europe by Night) &#8230;. Herself<\/li>\n<li><strong>Il moralista<\/strong> (1959 aka The Moralist) &#8230;. Herself<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chiamate 22-22 tenente Sheridan<\/strong> (1960) &#8230;. Herself<\/li>\n<li><strong>Io amo, tu ami<\/strong> (1960 aka I Love, You Love) &#8230;. Herself<\/li>\n<li><strong>Universo di notte <\/strong>(1962) &#8230;. Herself<\/li>\n<li><strong>8\u00bd<\/strong> (1963) &#8230;.
