{"id":161,"date":"2008-04-30T12:33:25","date_gmt":"2008-04-30T12:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mattblake.wordpress.com\/?p=163"},"modified":"2008-04-30T12:33:25","modified_gmt":"2008-04-30T12:33:25","slug":"pasquale-squitieri-appointed-to-run-rome-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/latest-news\/pasquale-squitieri-appointed-to-run-rome-film-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Pasquale Squitieri appointed to run Rome Film Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/europe\/romes-chattering-classes-fear-new-mayor-may-axe-film-festival-818061.html\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk']);\" target=\"_blank\">article in the Independent today<\/a> about a number of Italian cultural stars who are worried about new Roman mayor Gianni Alemanno, who&#8217;s essentially seen as being a bit of a pleb.\u00a0 Apparently one of his first moves has been to appoint veteran director Pasquale Squitieri &#8211; of numerous crime films and westerns &#8211; as head of the Rome Film Festival.\u00a0 This has made people worried&#8230; quoting Squitieri:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;In Italy we have more film awards than films, we should support [the film festival of] Venice and use the money to put good actors to work, to recreate the necessary structures. Look at France: in Paris they had a film festival but it was no good to anyone because they already had Cannes. [on the festival&#8217;s extravagance] They can&#8217;t pay for 18 hotel rooms for Nicole Kidman&#8217;s bodyguards, and then another 20 for Di Caprio&#8217;s.
