{"id":1712,"date":"2009-12-04T15:45:30","date_gmt":"2009-12-04T15:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1712"},"modified":"2009-12-04T15:46:24","modified_gmt":"2009-12-04T15:46:24","slug":"new-petri-rosi-on-dvd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/latest-news\/new-petri-rosi-on-dvd\/","title":{"rendered":"New Petri &#038; Rosi on DVD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At last, a new Elio Petri film on DVD <em>with English subs<\/em>!\u00a0 It&#8217;s <strong>La classe operaia va in paradiso<\/strong>, a typically hysterical early seventies drama starring Gian Maria Volonte as a factory worker who&#8217;s going gradually mad.\u00a0 I saw this one at a Petri retrospective some years back, and it&#8217;s a lot more entertaining than it sounds (although more of a grind than his more accessible, mid 60s works.\u00a0 It comes from the Minerva Classics label, who normally do a decent job, and features a handful of extras.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the link to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.videociak.net\/customer\/product.php?productid=23395\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.videociak.net']);\" target=\"_blank\">Videociak<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Volonte also pops up in Francesco Rosi&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.videociak.net\/customer\/product.php?productid=23397\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.videociak.net']);\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Uomini contro<\/strong><\/a>, which has also been released by Minerva.\u00a0 This is one of Rosi&#8217;s lesser known films, a war film about a mutiny amongst Italian troops in the First World War, and was co-written with Tonino Guerra.\u00a0 It also has English subs, and includes an interview with Rosi among other stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Both of them clock in at about \u20ac14, which I still have problems thinking of as being about \u00a313 rather than about \u00a39, now that&#8217;s sterling has been bled dry by the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At last, two Italian classics of the the early seventies &#8211; Petri&#8217;s La classe operaia va in paradiso and Rosi&#8217;s Uomini contro  &#8211; are released on DVD.
