There\u2019s an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/obituaries\/2148340\/Obituary-Cyd-Charisse.html\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk']);\" target=\"_blank\">obit up on the Telegraph<\/a>, quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Cyd Charisse, the long-legged beauty who danced with the Ballet Russe as a teenager and starred in MGM musicals with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, has died aged 87.<\/p>\n<p>She appeared in dramatic films, but her fame came from the Technicolor musicals of the 1940s and 1950s.<\/p>\n<p>Classically trained, she could dance anything, from a pas de deux in 1946\u2019s \u201cZiegfeld Follies\u201d to the lowdown Mickey Spillane satire of 1956\u2019s \u201cThe Band Wagon\u201d (with Astaire).<\/p>\n<p>She also forged a popular song-and-dance partnership on television and in nightclub appearances with her husband, singer Tony Martin.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What I doubt many of the obituaries will mention is that she also had some contact with the European film industry, appearing in films like Terence Young\u2019s French musical <strong>Black Tights <\/strong>(60), Mario Zampi\u2019s now obscure caper <strong>Five Golden Hours<\/strong> (61), Gerry O\u2019Hara\u2019s spy flic <strong>Maroc 7 <\/strong>(67) and Kevin Connor\u2019s adventure film <strong>Warlords of Atlantis <\/strong>(78).
