Luigi Scattini"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2127\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2127\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2127\" title=\"luigi-scattini\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/luigi-scattini.jpg\" alt=\"Luigi Scattini\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/luigi-scattini.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/luigi-scattini-117x88.jpg 117w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Luigi Scattini<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Director Luigi Scattini has apparently died.<\/p>\n<p>Scattini, a law graduate, was born on May 17, 1927, in Turin.\u00a0 He began his career as a journalist, working for papers and popular magazines like Gente and Oggi, before moving into cinema as a documentary film maker, for which he soon began building a considerable reputation.\u00a0 His 1962 film, <strong>La via del carbone<\/strong>, was nominated for best documentary at the Oscars and <strong>La Vergine di Caacup\u00e9 e Puerto Sastre<\/strong> was shown at Venice in 1963.<\/p>\n<p>He then took the logical step of moving into the Mondo field with 1963s <strong>Sexy Magico<\/strong>, and returned to the territory with <strong>Svezia, Inferno e Paradiso<\/strong> (1968),\u00a0 <strong>Angeli bianchi, Angeli neri<\/strong> (1969) and <strong>Questo sporco mondo meraviglioso<\/strong> (1970).<\/p>\n<p>In between these, he also directed several feature films, starting with the Buster Keaton \/ Franco &amp; Ciccio vehicle <strong>Due marines e un generale<\/strong> (66).\u00a0 Although he didn&#8217;t constrain himself to any particular genre, his films could be said to be linked by a sense of exoticism, whether this was the globetrotting espionage of <strong>Duello nel mondo<\/strong> (aka <em>Ring Around the World, 66<\/em>) or the Caribbean erotica of <strong>Il corpo<\/strong> (<em>The Body, 74<\/em>) and <strong>La notte dell&#8217;alta marea<\/strong> (77).\u00a0 Even his sleazy 1977 film <strong>Blue Nude<\/strong>, which follows the adventures of an Italian gigolo in New York, finds a certain exotica in its sleazy settings.<\/p>\n<p>Since the eighties, once his directorial career was effectively over, he forged a new and succesful career acting as a dubbing director for foreign films being shown in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>I have to confess, I haven&#8217;t actually seen any of Scattini&#8217;s films, even his Eurospy ones, but the general view seems to be that he was pretty good at what he did.\u00a0 I may dig out something of his later as a tribute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Director Luigi Scattini has apparently died.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[6],"tags":[149],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2125"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2125"}],"version-history":[{"count":9,"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2125\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2134,"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2125\/revisions\/2134"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2125"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2125"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thewildeye.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2125"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
