Ewa Aulin in THE DOUBLE.

Nationality: Swedish
Birth: 13th Febraury, 1950
Aka:

Ewa Aulin was an actress whose career was short, but ever so sweet. Despite only appearing in a dozen or so films, a number of them are now recognised as bonafide classics of the European Exploitation field.

Her career, like so many international starlets of the time, began with the beauty pageants: she was awarded Miss Teen Sweden 1965 and Miss Teen International 1966 (I guess that these competitions didn't involve wearing a hoodie, hanging around shopping centres and drinking cheap lager, as the modern equivalent would do). It didn't take long for her to be snapped up by Italian producers for her first major film role as Wanda, one of Lando Buzzanca's conquests, in the estimable Alberto Lattuada's Don Giovanni in Sicilia.

This was followed by a string of ultra-cult favourites. In Tinto Brass's little known Col cuore in guola (67) she is the chief suspect in a murder investigation, being assisted in clearing her name by Jean Sorel (eagle eyed viewers may be able to spot Janet Street Porter as an extra in this!) Death Laid an Egg found her mixed up with more murder, not to mention multitudinous chickens, Jean Louis Trintignant and Gina Lollobrigida. Christian Marquand's characteristically sixties Candy found her playing opposite Richard Burton, James Coburn and Marlon Brando.

She met her husband, English director John Shadow, while filming the psychedelic Microspoic Liquid Subway to Oblivion, and went on to appear in The Double and D'Amato's Death Smiles at a Murderer among others. In 1973, however, she gave up her acting career, enrolled in unioversity and became a teacher.
