Open Letter to the Evening News
Italian political nuttiness from Francesco Maselli. In all honesty, this is only really recommended for the more avid Italian film fan, but well worth it for the intrepid. As always, this NoShame DVD is packed full of extras, interviews and other goodies

street law thumbnail Story of a Cloistered Nun
Domenico Paolella directed this effective nunsploitation film with Catherine Spaak and Dudley Moore. There's just about all the naughty convent goings on you'd imagine in this, and it's all presented with customary NoShame aplomb. Includes interviews with Eleanora Giorgi and more

Colt .38 Special Squad
Hardboiled cop Marcel Bozzufi forms a squad of rogue detectives dedicated to cleaning all of the riffraff from the streets. Excellent Italo-crime fun from Massimo Dallamano, lovely print, loads of extras. Also includes the ultra rare Ercoli film La Bidonata.

  street law thumbnail Convoy Busters
Maurizio Merli is a cop tracking down the killers of a young girl who uncovers corruption at the highest levels of power. Another decent crime flick from Stelvio Massi, also with Olga Karlatos and Massimo Serato. Includes interviews with Ruggero Deodato and Enzo Castellari.

Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion
Luciano Ercoli's complex and erotic giallo gets the Blue Underground treatment. A nice print, and includes an interview with writer Ernesto Gastaldi. This is a bit of a lounge classic, with a great soundtrack as well.

Double Game
Ok, I'm going to be brutally honest here: Double Game isn't a great film. It's not even a good film. But look at the extras: interviews with and short films by director Carlo Ausino & the first English language release of the lost Tony: Another Double Game.

Pyjama Girl Case, The
I have to say that this isn't one of my favourite giallos, but it certainly has its admirers - so maybe I'm being unfair. Dalila Di Lazzaro and Ray Milland are the stars, Falvio Mogherini the director. Lovely print, a few bits and bobs as extras (but no Di Lazzaro interview, confound it)

Luciano Ercoli Boxset
Another great NoShame release, this double bill of Death Walks on High Heels and Death Strikes at Midnight is incredible fun. The films are both good and well presented, and the extras include a compilation soundtrack of Stelvio Cipriani's finest compositions.

How to Kill a Judge
The latest release from Blue Underground is this excellent italo-crime film from Damiano Damiani (Confessions of a Police Captain). Great print, italian audio and English subs, also including interviews with Damiani and star Franco Nero. Unmissable.

Last Round
Another italo-crime film from NoShame, again featuring Luc Merenda. This time ex-boxer Carlos Monson co-stars and Stelvio Massi directs (this is possibly my favourite Massi film). Highly recommended, and also includes a DVD of crime film soundtrack covers. Groovy

Emilio Miraglia Boxset
Yowzer! This has to be the best NoShame release so far, and that's saying something... Two giallos by Emilio Miraglia - The Red Queen Kills Seven Times and The Night Evelyn Rose from the Grave - loads of interviews, features and other extras. And, err, a 'red queen' figurine. This is limited so snap it up.

Big Racket, The
More Castellari crime, this time with Fabio Testi and Vincent Gardenia starring keeping afloat among the assorted street scum. A lovely print and a Castellari commentary make this well worth the money.

Street Law
First of a trio of Enzo Castellari crime films released by Blue Underground. It's a lovely print and comes complete with a 'Making of' featurette and a commentary by Castellari. It's a much better than average crime film with Franco Nero and Giancarlo Prete. Highly recommended.

Heroin Busters
And the Italo-crime keeps on coming... more Castellari, more Fabio testi and this one also has David Hemmings for some reason or other. It's a good film, a good print, and has another commentary from the director.

Black Belly of the Tarantula, The
This is the real find amongst Blue Underground's latest batch, mainly because it's never previously had a proper release. It's a superior giallo, made with a considerable degree of care by Paolo Cavara.

Fifth Cord, The
Yowzer! Blue Underground are having a bit of a run at the moment, and this is their release of Luigi Bazzoni's above average giallo starring Franco Nero. As always, this comes complete witha bundle of extras.

Uno Bianco
NoShame are consistently the most eclectic Euro-focused DVD company at the moment, witness this release of Michele Soavi's TV crime film starring Kim Rossi Stuart. Packed with interviews, behind the scenes footage and, err, a 'make your own car' model kit (?!?)

Man Called Magnum
Here's another diamond release from NoShame, Michele Massimo Tarantini's cop movie starring Luc Merenda. It's not the best Italian thriller but the extras (audio commentary by the director, interview with the star) and print are fabulous.

Son of Samson / Son of Cleopatra
A peplum double bill that's slipped out on UK release. I haven't picked this up myself yet, so can't comment on the print quality, but it's under a tenner and the films themselves are pretty good. Worth a look, for sure.

Django - Die Totengräber warten schon
This is one of my favourite releases of 2005. It's the best version I've ever seen of Castellari's underrated JOHNNY HAMLET. Great quality, English options, with interview from Castellari. And all for just €15.

Seven Deaths in a Cat's Eyes
Another glorious release from Blue Underground, and the deluxe treatment really brings hidden qualities to this previously mediocre giallo. Includes interview with writer Giovanni Simonelli
