A History of Italian Cinema by Peter Bondanella

Just picked up this book from a Waterstones in Bournemouth, of all places. Way back in 1984, or something like that, Bondanella wrote Italian Cinema: From Neorealism to the Present, which is still the essential textbook when it comes to the history of Italian cinema.

R.I.P. Marcella Di Folco

Marcella Di Folco, who died on the 7th September, was born Marcello Di Folco (Rome 7 March 1943) and was an activist, actress and Italian politician.

R.I.P. Piero Vivarelli

Reports are filtering through that writer and director Piero Vivarelli has died. Vivarelli may not be the most familiar name, but he made some interesting films, including a couple of fumetti-inspired actioners – Satanik and Avenger X – and exotic, erotic favourites Il dio serpente and Decameron nero.

Hans

Hans is a 2006 release directed by Louis Nero, a young Torinese filmmaker who’s made a handful of low budget films since his 2000 debut, Golem.

Caribbean Basterds released in Italy

Looks like Enzo Castellari’s first film in God knows how long, Caribbean Basterds, has been released in Italy. It appears to have come out on the 20th August, although just where it’s come out is difficult to tell.

Durango is Coming, Pay or Die

Durango is Coming, Pay or Die is an obscure Italian western from the early seventies, directed by the veteran filmmaker Roberto Bianchi Montero. Montero was a solid craftsman who made competent if unspectacular films in just about every popular genre going, and this is no different: the low budget is painfully evident at times and the plot is rubbish, but it’s reasonably enjoyable and better made than many of its ilk.
