La canarina assassinata

la canarina assassinata posterJust out in Italy is this moderately amusing sounding comedy. This is one of those films that centres upon a film crew – one of two themes that appear horrendously popular with Italian filmakers at the moment, the other being the slightly less self-referential topic of immigration. Anyway, this lot are run by a cheapjack producer, who manages to find a dirt-cheap place to shoot some locations for his latest film: a grand villa owned by the enigmatic Anna. However, the world of fiction and reality collide, and it becomes clear that there’s another reason behind their being there…

This is directed by Daniele Cascella, who previously worked as an assistant director on La scorta (94), and has been getting decent notices from local critics. Its only had a limited release, though.
