Sorry for the delay in posting about this, but Angelo Infanti died last week.  Here’s a translated obit that I found:

Fans of Carlo Verdone, after the death of Mario Brega in 94, have been mourning the death of the actor Angelo Infanti, 71 years old, who unforgettably played Manuel Fantoni in Borotalco.  He died of a heart attack in hopsital in Tivoli, after falling in on Saturday at his home in Zagarolo, a small town near Rome where he was born on February 16th, 1939.

He owed his considerable popularity to Verdone, with whom he also worked on Bianco rosso e verdone in 1981, but he had a long career, full of b-movie thrillers and quality productions such as Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, Visconti’s The Leopard and Marco Ferreri’s Storia di piera.  With his deep voice and charming presence, he often played the charming playboy in the 70s, in sexy films such as Joe D’Amato’s Black Emanuelle series, as well as working with Bud Spencer on Piedone d’egitto, Alberto Sordi in Viaggio con papa and Diego Abatantuono on Attila flagello di dio.

On television, he was in Damiano Damiani’s first series of Piovra (he also worked in Damiani’s L’inchiesta), Vite blindate, Don Matteo and Gente di mare.  But it was as the self-styled architect Manuel Fantoni in Borotalco that he gained his cult fame.  Verdone and Infanti had met at the home of Sergio Leone, who encourage Verdone and produced his first film.  “I have lost a dear friend,” said Verdone, on hearing the news, “I met him at Sergio Leone’s house, and he was someone who could do classical roles and also action films.  When I wrote Bianco rosso e verdone I thought he’d be perfect, his face was right… he was a humourous guy and I loved working with him.”

He was also in a number of other interesting films not mentioned above: The Tiffany Memorandum (66), Pistoleros (67), The Valachi Papers (72) and La scorta (93).
