Anyway, Giovanni Elsner isn’t possibly that familiar a name to Italian film fans internationally, but he was an actor and radio host who was born on Septermber 27th, 1940 and died, after a long illness, on the 5th October.

Born in South Tyrol,he graduated as a dental technician, but decided instead to pursue a career as an actor, moving to Rome in 1965 and enrolling in l’Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica “Silvio D’Amico”, but he was expelled after about a year for acting in a show without permission from his tutors.  He soon started appearing on television, with a part in the long running TV series Le inchieste del commissario Maigret, before moving into film with Il decameron No. 3 – Le più belle donne del Boccaccio (1971).  More parts followed: Un ufficiale non si arrende mai nemmeno di fronte all’evidenza, firmato Colonnello Buttiglione (1973), La polizia interviene: ordine di uccidere (1975), Paura in città (1976), Vento, vento, portali via con te (1976) e La malavita attacca… la polizia risponde! (1978)

In 1976, he also started working on radio, hosting a talkshow on the Rome-based station Radio Luna.  It was a job that lasted for over thirty years.

The WildEye is a blog dedicated to the wild world of Italian cinema (and, ok, sometimes I digress into discussing films from other countries as well). Peplums, comedies, dramas, spaghetti westerns... they're all covered here.
