Fotoromanzi Website

It’s not strictly cinema, but Italian Fotoromanzi certainly had a lot of links with the genre. The Fotoromanzi were graphic books in which stories were told through photographs and speech bubbles (rather like UK Zines such as Jackie, but aimed at adults more than kids). They were also a valuable source of income for actors and actresses during dry spells: they acted as a calling card for some performers (George Hilton, for instance, first made his mark in them), a 2nd home for others (especially in the 70s, when the industry suffered a huge downturn).

Anyway, here’s a fabulous fotoromanzi website, and it’s well worth a browse!

  1. I’ve got a few of the ‘cineromanzo’ magazines from the early 70’s that feature fotonovel’s of b-movies from the time, some include scenes not included in the film itself or in different version’s like Polselli’s DELIRIO CALO which has more of Calderoni’s torture sequence.
