R.I.P. Renato Izzo

News just trickling through the grapevine that Renato Izzo has died.  Sr. Izzo was known in Italy as one of the most prominent dubbers in the country, voicing parts for the likes of Paul Newman, Jean Louis Trintignant and Dennis Hopper.  He was also, though, a scriptwriter, working on a number of films from the mid sixties to the mid seventies.  Unsurprisingly, given his dubbing work, his speciality was dialogue, and he was often relied upon to flesh out the characters for stories that other writers had come up with.  According to Gianfranco Parolini, for whom he worked on several films (If You Meet Sartana, Pray for your Death, Sabata, Five for Hell):

Izzo was one of the major dubbing directors in the country and a very effective scriptwriter, especially for dialogue.

There’s surprisingly little biographcal information around about him, but I did find this neat little tribute film on YouTube
